As a nonprofit association, born of a community of students, our goal is to be a connecting element between like-minded people.
Already in 2014, according to the Federal Statistical Office, more than 11,000 German medical students studied abroad. (1) In general, it can be assumed that this tendency continues to increase due to the lack of doctors and study places.
Unlike in many other countries (Norway, USA ..), the joint organization of German students abroad is not yet available.
In our opinion, while studying, especially abroad, an existing community is a great help.
As GMS we want to shape this community!!
Specifically, we have summarized our goals, divided into three main categories, here. The following points we want to enable students abroad:
Improvement of study conditions and also of freetime activities. We want to do this by opening GMS local representations at every interested university. If a German student association already exists at your university, we are glad to welcome you into the network.
Join GMS – Join and Design a Platform!
Integration into activities of medical students in Germany. Close connection to existing student organizations (eg BVMD, IFMSA, )
Participation and invitation to various events such as congresses and “Medimeisterschaften”…
Connection and placement at teaching hospitals for clinical study years in Germany (Famulaturen, PJ)
Simplified return to Germany
Simplification of credits for coursework and aid with financing options for semester fees
Communication and meetings with other Germans abroad.
Spring seminar 2020 in Warsaw for all German medical students abroad
Creating an infrastructure for cross-regional exchange!
Political representation of the interests of German students abroad
Based on the motto “only together we are strong”, we pursue these goals in the interests of our members and colleagues.
